Candidasa is the most popular beach resort along Bali’s east coast. It’s where you can enjoy a quiet seaside escape, far from the crowds and traffic of the island’s south. The main road of Jalan Raya Candidasa runs parallel to the shoreline and is lined with accommodation varying from basic hotels to 5-star resorts. There’s a host of good shops, bars and restaurants in between. The beach itself features a sequence of sandy shores and breakwaters.
There are famous dive spots not far from the coast of Candidasa, which local operators can boat you out to. The area also serves as a good base for exploring some of Bali’s important historical sites, such as the Taman Ujung water palace and the Tirta Gangga royal water gardens. From the hub of Candidasa, you can travel uphill towards Tenganan to discover one of Bali’s oldest villages, where ancient arts and traditions live on.
